An onsen is a Japanese hot spring. In other words, it extends to cover the bathing facilities. As a volcanically active country, there are millions of onsen can be found throughout Japan.
Kinosaki is the best Tattoo friendly onsen village in Japan. Kinosaki has seven traditional onsens they are Ichino-yu, Yanagi-yu, Jizou-yu, Santono-yu, Goshino-yu, Mandara-yu, Kouno-yu. The tickets for onsen are inexpensive and if you might stay overnight you can probably enter into all the seven onsens which would be better.
Entering into the onsen is a big deal. It doesn't mean taking off your clothes and have pool time. Those who took part in onsen should familiar with etiquettes and traditional rituals of onsen.
Onsen Rules
*People who have tattoos on their bodies are not allowed to enter(generally).
*Keep your hair tied-up.
*Wash your body before you enter into the onsen.
*Do not put the towel inside the bathtub.
*Watch others while washing or showering.
*No alcohol intake inside the onsen.
*No clothes are allowed inside the bathtub(Go naked).
Onsen water has many mineral contents like calcium chloride, sodium chloride, and sulfate ions. These minerals offer a purifying effect on the skin and body. Onsen is really helpful for relieving from muscle pains, joint pains, etc..
